Indiana's premier haunted attraction joins elite tier of industry-recognized operators committed to the highest standards of guest safety
WABASH, IN., June, 15, 2026 — The Nightmare Factory, one of Indiana's premier haunted attraction experiences, is proud to announce that five members of its cast and crew, affectionately known as its "monsters", successfully earned the C.H.A.O.S. (Certified Haunted Attraction Operator Safety) certification through the Haunted Attraction Association (HAA). The milestone reflects the organization's ongoing commitment to combining world-class scares with rigorously safe protocols, and signals an ambitious trajectory heading into what promises to be the attraction's most expansive season yet.
The Haunted Attraction Association operates as a national organization whose mission is to protect, promote, and educate its worldwide network of haunted attractions, vendors, artists, and enthusiasts. It has offered the C.H.A.O.S. program since 2008 which requires individuals to complete a four-hour Fire and Safety Seminar covering topics that include fire marshal compliance, crowd dynamics, emergency planning, flame testing, fireproofing, and owner liability, followed by four additional hours of seminar coursework, for a total of eight hours of in-person training.
For haunted attractions seeking recognition in the HAA's prestigious Top Haunts program, at least one staff member holding active C.H.A.O.S. certification is mandatory. The Nightmare Factory's decision to certify five team members speaks to a culture of dedication that the team has cultivated from the ground up.
Co-founder Ashlee Ryman, whose relentless pursuit of excellence has been a driving force behind The Nightmare Factory's growth and reputation, championed the certification initiative as part of a broader effort to elevate every dimension of the guest experience.
"We are preparing 2026 to be our biggest, scariest season ever," said Ryman. "Preparing for bigger events and bigger crowds means preparing on all cylinders, and safety is our number one priority."
In an industry where the illusion of danger is the product, the infrastructure behind the scares demands an unwavering commitment to the real thing: the health and safety of every guest.
With a landmark season on the horizon, The Nightmare Factory invites thrill-seekers across the Midwest to experience what happens when top-tier fright meets top-tier professionalism.
